I was in Illinois this past week for a family event. While there, my wife, son and I went into Chicago to see the sights. I’ve been to the Windy City many times, but it was my wife and son’s first time.
That morning we used an app called ParkWhiz to park in a lot owned by Buddy’s Parking. The app said we were good until 12 midnight, so we headed out. We did as much of the touristy things as we could manage with a 2-year-old. The Willis tower, Navy Pier, Michigan Ave, and Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, to name a few places.
When we finally decided to head back to the car it was close to 9pm. When we go to back to the lot, we found that it was closed. What?! The app said we had until Midnight. Though a huge sign on the window of the lot office said the lot closes at 8pm. As it turned out the sign was obstructed by a truck that morning so we didn’t see it.
After a massive freak out, we finally got our wits about us and decided to take the Metra regional rail back to the hotel north of the city. We used Uber and loved it once we got to the train station near the hotel.
After calling ParkWhiz, we found out that Buddy Parking’s listing on Google wasn’t up-to-date and in fact it said they were open until midnight. So thankfully ParkWhiz did right by us and refunded our money and travel expenses. The next day we took Uber to the train station and went back into Chicago and retrieved our car.
This whole experience is a great example of why businesses need to make sure that not only their Google Local listings, but all their online listings are accurate and up-to-date. There’s nothing worse than an upset customer. Remember, one upset customer’s bad thoughts about your business go way farther and reach more people than a happy customer. This is because unhappy customers are more likely to leave reviews and complain openly about their experiences.
