Hey, everybody. It’s Seth. I’m back from Niagara Falls. Anyhow, I wanna talk briefly about something that I saw on LinkedIn, where people were talking about how they’re getting kicked off of LinkedIn and losing all their content, or they’re getting kicked off of LinkedIn and they have to fight for 4 or 5 days to get back on LinkedIn because all the content’s there. They wanna interact with people and and stuff like that. This is a key example of why you need to put stuff first on your own site, on your own blog, and then share out to the socials. This will make it so that you always own your content. If you get deleted off of Instagram, whatever, you always just relink it and say, “go back to my site. It’s over here.”
If your socials get deleted for some reason, or take it over hackers, you can start over really fast because your content is just what? Find your own site. Things like WordPress and Ghost as they share out to the Fediverse automatically. So sites like Mastodon, Pixelfed, all those other platforms. Then your blog can be followed by Mastodon users (etc.) and engage with, which is nice. It saves you some steps. It’s really not hard to share out a URL to your content or you put it first on your blog and then we post it on social media. That way all the content that is put out there is on your site first and then on social media.
So you’re getting the benefit of social media, but you’re getting the benefit of having it on your own site. It’ll go back to your site. You’re the influencer. You should have the content on your site first.
Hopefully this wasn’t too backwards inside out or confusing. If you wanna talk to me anytime, literally just scan the QR code to go to my business card. I
