3rd Party Cookies Are Not Exactly Going Away

So this week Google announced that they are no longer getting rid of 3rd party cookies in Chrome after all. Though how 3rd party cookies are being implemented going forward is changing.

Now, like it’s done on iOS, users opt in to get tracked via 3rd party cookies or they are put in Google’s Privacy Sandbox. The Privacy Sandbox will track the users in a more privacy focused way.

So if you’ve ever used an iOS device, how many times have you allowed an app to track you? None? Yep, that’s right, so even if 3rd party cookies can still be used in Chrome, their usefulness will be greatly diminished.

This is where first party data comes in. Software like Goldstein Media Analytics can help you know who is visiting your site and in some cases even give you the company’s general email address and LinkedIn profile.

With or without Web cookies, the Internet is changing, so should the marketing playbook.
