Website design is an important factor that has large impacts on consumers’ choices and attitudes. Every business, big or small, needs a cleverly designed website that adequately displays their brand in the most meaningful way possible.

Website design platforms such as WordPress and graphics editors such as Canva have developed into amazingly simple yet effective tools anyone can use. As such, the art of website design is a constantly changing landscape.

2017 is a year where web design will be at the forefront of innovation. Looking ahead to some the trends can offer a glimpse into the creative culture all web designers seek to illuminate.

Content has shifted into the primary driver of the web design. Consumers expect content that is presented in a meaningful and elegant manner. Minimalistic design styles have become increasingly popular because over-cluttered web sites may distract visitors from the importance of the content being presented.

Along with minimalist design styles, big, bold type is a growing fixture on many websites.

The emphasis is being placed on short, yet meaningful statements that capture the essence of the content and brand. Concise yet powerful statements makes digesting the content easier for people.

Color has also shifted into the realm of bold and bright. Bright colors reinvigorate content with more personality and emotion.

Companies such as Instagram have taken notice as they revamped their logo with bright tones of orange, red and yellow. Gradients are also an important facet to the color trend as they create a seamless visual transition of content.

Video content and motion graphics are also becoming an increasingly popular medium to reach people.

“People are incredibly visual beings, and the strongest trends are those that consider the human eye, along with our other senses” says Damian Thomas of Thomas Design. He alludes to the fact video content elicits a stronger emotional response from people than pure text.

While designers have integrated these elements into web design, they have also taken notice to the various displays people view content with.

Mobile devices have taken a front row seat to content display. The question then becomes how to preserve the elegance of web page design across various sized screens?

The answer lies with responsive design. As CSS media queries, flexible grids and layouts evolve, responsive design will allow any web page to adapt to the appropriate screen size without losing any visual aspects.

As people look ahead to 2017, web design will continue to change with the trends and technology. It is imperative designers update and adapt their design styles to continue innovating.  Though, emphasis must always be on allowing the content to resonate through the clutter of the growing web.
