Elon Musk finally owning Twitter and wasting little time before spreading FUD and misinformation has made me finally jump to the fediverse and Mastodon in particular.
The Fediverse is not just one thing. It’s a collection of platforms that are owned by everyone. Anyone can setup a server and run their own instance of Mastodon or any of the other programs out there. There is seriously something for everyone. Pixelfed is like Instagram, Mastodon is like Twitter, and MissKey is like Facebook. The best part, they all talk to each other, so you don’t have silos.
No longer do we need to be hoping that an insane, Ironman wanna-be won’t mess up our playground.
I’ve gotten some push back from some friends that say it’s too quiet on Mastodon. What I keep telling them is that you have to curate your own feed, there are not algorithms to feed you content. And you know what? It’s wonderful.
I have spun up my own instance of Mastodon over at Socl.bz. Feel free to sign-up and I’ll be slowly letting people into the server to experience it. Please keep in mind that there are tons of Mastodon instances to choose from. There is a home for everyone. And to be honest, pick one and try it out. If that instance isn’t right for you can take your followers with you to another one. You heard me right.
I’m always here to answer questions. Hit me up! If you’re on Mastodon find me a Socl.bz/seth.
