My Take

Podcasts are thing right now. Having been in the podcasting space for more than a decade, I’ve seen the trajectory of podcasts wax and wane. Now we’re definitely on an upward trajectory. It seems like not only everyone has a podcast, but social media companies from Twitter to YouTube are trying their hand at cultivating a way to listen to them.

Twitter recently announced that they will be tying Podcasts into their Spaces product. This could be interesting. Or it could bog down the whole service.

Now don’t get me wrong I like the idea of podcasts hitting the mainstream. The word Podcast is in the lexicon and no longer are people wondering what the heck is a podcast. There are more opportunities than ever for people to grow and monetize their shows. So overall things are great. But we need to be wary of access. If these platforms don’t work hard on the discovery aspect of their products, then it’s going to be more of the same. The highly produced, big budget shows will get top billing and the smaller shows will stagnate.

Only time will tell how all of this will pan out. Regardless I’m excited!
