It’s the gossip gift that keeps on giving. Elon Musk has said he’s not buying Twitter. A collective sigh of relief is emitted from the social graph. Was he ever going to? Or was this one elaborate game? Who knows and, to be honest, who cares. So what does this mean for marketers? It means that Twitter will remain a place where the general tweeting public will stay and we marketers can market to.
I’m a big fan of the alternatives to Twitter, like Mastodon. But I think Twitter is still an important place to be as a brand. Especially those in the DTC sector. Also journalists use Twitter all the time to spread information and connect with sources. So if you have a big announcement Twitter is a great place to announce it.
Do I think the service needs help? Do I think, to some, it’s a cesspool of hate, bigotry, and malice? Yes! But, with some controls, Twitter is and can continue to be a special place for both people and companies alike.
